44-40 Winchester Fg

I have started shooting some black powder cowboy action matches. I acquired a Uberti Henry rifle to use in 44-40 so I needed a Fg load. I decided to use Hodgden 777 for the easy clean-up. I got this load from the Hodgden web-site and it seem to be good. Remember that Fg and 777 are measures by volume not weight. It makes plenty of smoke, a nice big boom and it seems to be accurate at least at SASS main match ranges. Loading and shooting Fg cartridges is quite fun you should try it sometime.

I HAVE BEEN RELOADING METALLIC CARTRIDGES FOR CENTERFIRE RIFLES AND PISTOLS FOR  OVER 26 YEARS. I HAVE BOOKSHELVES FULL OF RELOADING DATA. I HAVE A HIGHLY REFINED  PROCEDURE FOR WORKING UP, AND TESTING LOADS. IT  INVOLVING  SCIENTIFIC PROCESSES  AS WELL AS SOME SEAT OF THE PANTS, FEELING IN PIT OF YOUR STOMACH METHODS. DO NOT USE THE LOADING DATA AS STATED ON THIS SIGHT TO RELOAD FOR YOURSELF. YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY LIKE BLOWING YOUR FIREARM UP IN YOUR FACE. THIS COULD RESULT IN RIPPING YOUR BLOODY HEAD OFF AND KILLING YOU IN A LOUD AND GROTESQUE MANOR. I GIVE THIS DATA ON THE IDEA THAT IT MAY REVEAL UNDISCOVERED POTENTIAL IN A POWDER, A BULLET WEIGHT OR THE CALIBER ITSELF. YOU MUST THEN CONSULT CURRENT DATA FOR SAFE STARTING AND MAXIMUM LOADS.

These loads were tested in Uberti Henry rifle. I used a mixture of brass. Winchester, Remington and Mag Tec which was full length resize. I loaded the ammo using my RCBS Reloader Special press. Test firing was done at Albuquerque Shooting range park at a Rio Grande Renegades Match. The elevation was 5400 feet per my GPS, the temperature was 80 and I had an egg, bacon and green chili breakfast burrito and a 44 oz. Diet Dr Pepper on the way out to the range. The velocity listed is from Hodgdon data as no chronograph was available. The bullets used are Laser Cast 200 Gr .431. The dies and my rifle are liking .429 so I run the bullets through by .429 Lee sizing dye. I am now casting my own bullets 200 gr. still but sized to .429 from the start.
